Position: Director of Housing

HOPE of East Central Illinois is dedicated to ending domestic violence by providing a wide range of services for victims and facilitating social change. We are currently seeking to fill a full-time Director of Housing role within our Charleston office. Job Description:

Exempt.  Full-time position.  The Director of Housing is a key leadership position at HOPE of East Central Illinois. This position oversees operational aspects and delivery of essential services within the Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter and Transitional Housing programs offered by the agency. Major duties include providing effective, regular and ongoing supervision to Shelter and Transitional Housing Staff. Providing direct services to clients as needed. Overseeing daily operations of services within the assigned programs. Ensures that the staff assigned for supervision are adequately trained and supported. Reports to the Executive Director.



  1. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing services
  2. Ensures compliance with program requirements and appropriate documentation
  3. Develops and mentors staff to promote ongoing learning and shared knowledge
  4. Demonstrates leadership skills – effective conflict resolution and communication skills
  5. Assists in the implementation and development of the agency’s client management system
  6. Maintains documentation of supervision sessions
  7. Ensures that all client policies and procedures are strictly adhered to
  8. Documents client complaints, grievances, and warnings
  9. Supervises Shelter and Transitional Housing staff, volunteers and interns as assigned
  10. Follows up on any maintenance and repair requests of program participants, ensuring compliance with building codes and other requirements to guarantee proper living conditions for clients
  11. In partnership with the Executive Director, oversees property searches for residential housing
  12. Ensures that program units and rooms are occupied within a set timeframe of clients moving out
  13. Other duties as assigned

Scope of the Position:

The Director of Housing must be willing to engage in difficult and direct communication in an effort to contribute to a healthy positive work culture. An understanding of housing issues, knowledge of community resources and a sensitivity to the needs of survivors and their children is required. Candidates must also be committed to and comfortable with diversity and demonstrate commitment to inclusivity. The Director of Housing must be able to communicate and work effectively with a diverse population of clients and must be able to work effectively as an individual as well as a team member.
